  • Dubai, UAE, 8 September 2024: Roberto Cavalli closed Dubai Fashion Week (DFW) with a dramatic runway show at Dubai Design District (d3), reinforcing its standing as a luxury fashion powerhouse. The event marked the grand finale of DFW Spring/Summer 2025, co-hosted by d3 and the Arab Fashion Council, further cementing Dubai’s role as a global fashion hub.

The participation of Roberto Cavalli at DFW showcased both the regional and global resurgence of the brand. Fausto Puglisi, Creative Director of Roberto Cavalli, expressed his excitement about the event: “Dubai is a city that embodies luxury and fashion. It’s an honour to close Dubai Fashion Week in such an energetic and bold market, which aligns perfectly with the spirit of our collections.”

The runway displayed the Resort 2025 collection, which paid homage to the brand’s late founder. The collection included signature elements like iconic rose prints and zebra patterns, reflecting Roberto Cavalli’s distinctive design identity. “The brand doesn’t define a single ‘Roberto Cavalli woman,’ but rather celebrates the diversity of personalities and styles each woman embodies. This collection speaks to the individuality, strength, and beauty of women in this region,” Fausto added.

Additionally, the show introduced a special capsule collection inspired by Murano glass, featuring deep greens and blues, honouring the craftsmanship of Venice and paying tribute to Italy’s cultural heritage.

Since DAMAC Group acquired Roberto Cavalli in 2019, the brand has expanded beyond fashion into sectors like real estate and hospitality, with highlights including the Cavalli Tower in Dubai—a reflection of the brand’s luxury lifestyle ethos.

Amira Sajwani, Managing Director of DAMAC Group, shared her thoughts: “Dubai’s global fashion influence continues to grow, and we’re proud to see Roberto Cavalli leading this transformation. The brand’s Italian flair and luxury align perfectly with the Middle East, and we’re eager to see its further expansion in the region.”

    Thriving Fashion Market in Dubai

Dubai continues to play a key role in the global luxury fashion industry, with a growing demand for high-end fashion across the GCC region, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This booming market is proving vital for international brands like Roberto Cavalli.

With its participation in Dubai Fashion Week, Roberto Cavalli reinforces its commitment to the region’s fashion scene. In addition to fashion, the brand offers fragrances, eyewear, and home collections and is expanding its global retail presence with new stores in London and Las Vegas, as well as exploring further opportunities across the Middle East.

Dubai Design Week, the Middle East’s leading design festival, is returning for its milestone 10th edition from 5-10 November 2024. Curated in strategic partnership with Dubai Design District (d3), a member of TECOM Group PJSC, and supported by Dubai Culture, the milestone edition will provide over 500 internationally acclaimed and emerging designers with a platform to showcase their design experience and thinking in the form of installations, exhibitions and overall experiential mediums.

The annual festival’s line-up of programming will highlight once again Dubai’s enduring commitment to design excellence. Taking place at its home in d3, a global creative ecosystem across design, fashion, architecture and art, the landmark 10th edition of Dubai Design Week will focus on designing for a sustainable future. This theme will be integrated across the week’s programme of activities in a range of disciplines, including architecture, product design and interiors.

“Collaborative creativity can design a brighter future for the world. This milestone 10th anniversary of Dubai Design Week will showcase the very best of global design, as is evident in the level of expertise and ingenuity on display as well as the calibre of conversations taking place this year,” said Khadija Al Bastaki, Senior Vice President of Dubai Design District (d3) – part of TECOM Group.

“Dubai Design Week’s landmark edition will unite the design community to provide an international platform to promote regional creative talent, sustainable design, and innovation, reflecting Dubai Design District’s deep commitment to nurturing an enabling ecosystem for Dubai’s ever-growing creative and design community, in which our strategic partnership with Dubai Design Week is key. This year’s festival will be a dynamic and inspiring experience for all who attend, with a diverse range of exhibitions and events that showcase the power of design to shape the world around us.”

Key Programming at Dubai Design Week includes:

    Trade Show

At the heart of Dubai Design Week is Downtown Design (6-9 November), the Middle East’s leading fair for contemporary and high-quality design, which will again take place at the Waterfront Terrace at d3. This year’s fair will be the most extensive to date with a line-up of leading international speakers, designers and brands taking part for the first time.

    Installations

This year’s installation programme will feature a series of installations and pavilions open to practitioners from the Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region. The theme focuses on vernacular architecture and how it can inform regenerative design. In 2023, Dubai Design Week commissioned Emirati architect Abdalla Almulla, whose pavilion ‘Of Palm’ was one of the winners of the Monocle Design Awards.

    Urban Commissions

Dubai Design Week’s annual competition invites designers and architects to develop outdoor furniture for public spaces. Titled ‘Tawila,’ this year’s competition will examine the table as a facilitator of exchange, tradition, and communal experiences.

    Exhibitions & Activations

Exhibitions and activations hosted by cultural organisations, educational institutions, and design-driven brands, among others, will showcase various design themes that spotlight talent as well as foster cultural discourse and knowledge-sharing.

    Workshops

A programme of over 50 workshops and masterclasses designed to inspire and elevate skills across all design disciplines will cater to professionals and aspiring creatives of all ages, interests, and experience levels.

    Marketplace

A consciously curated retail experience featuring designers, producers, and homegrown businesses from the region will feature a range of products including homeware, jewellery, fashion and lifestyle as well as food experiences, children’s activities and live performances.

    Talks

The Forum at Downtown Design will host leading international and regional experts within the design industry to discuss the latest trends and innovations in regional and international design.

“Elephant in the Room” is an award-winning art installation by renowned Bangladeshi visual artist that was launched at the Dubai Design District (D3). Crafted from used clothing and bamboo, the colourful life-size elephants of Bangladeshi artist Kamruzzaman Shadhin’s latest project tell the story of loss.

D3 is a hub of inspiration for creatives, artists, and designers. It will exhibit this artwork in its walkaways till April 12, 2021.

This project revolves around the occupants of the Kutupalong Refugee camp and the displacement of elephants due to the sudden arrival of the Rohingya community in 2017. With authorities having little time to plan, the Kutupalong Refugee Camp ended up being settled right on top of a number of elephant migration corridors, pathways that the animals use to move from Bangladesh to Myanmar throughout the year.

Over the years, elephants killed a number of refugees as the animals stumbled into camps in attempts to cross the forests, while other groups are trapped within pockets, unable to find a migration path.

The Bangladeshi Artist collected torn out clothes from the people living in the Kutupalong refugees camp and gave them new clothes to wear. Life-size elephants were constructed from bamboo and used-clothing to promote a balanced human co-existence with nature and to raise awareness about elephant conservation within the community. The torn out clothes were sewn by the craftswomen in the community, that were then used to cover the elephants. According to Shahdin ‘This project is an attempt to weave art, community practices, migrant experiences, trauma, and hope in a “kantha” which embodies the struggles of the stateless, be it human or animal, all over the world.’

“This project is an attempt to weave art, community practices, migrant experiences, trauma, and hope in a kantha, which embodies the struggles of the stateless, be it human or animal, all over the world,” Shadhin said in a statement.

“Elephant in the Room” is a part of the “No place like home” exhibition, organised by Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation to raise awareness around conservation and displacement of communities.
