A unique chocolate store inspired by Arts and Crafts tradition.

In the heart of Covent Garden, Barnaby’s newly opened chocolate shop is a nostalgic journey into a “golden age” of confectionery. Designed by Morrisstudio and Built Works, the 33-square-metre space combines timeless British aesthetics with modern craftsmanship, setting a sophisticated tone for Barnaby’s gourmet chocolate brand.

A Distinctively British Design Concept


The shop’s design celebrates British heritage by drawing inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement and the Edwardian-era model village of Bournville, known for its connection to Cadbury’s chocolate factory. The interior features wood panelling, glossy handmade tiles, and a warm colour palette reminiscent of vintage 1930s Bournville posters.

Designer Tom Morris explained, “We wanted to create something serious but high on charm… taking the British route felt natural.” The result is a space that contrasts sharply with the playful kitsch of American brands or the luxe minimalism of Swiss chocolatiers.

Traditional Joinery Meets Contemporary Functionality


The shop’s facade, rebuilt in solid wood with tusk and tenon joints, evokes the charm of a classic sweet shop. Inside, stained oak cladding—blending Japanese joinery techniques with Edwardian panelling—adds historical depth and warmth.

The flooring, crafted by ceramics studio Common Objects, resembles chocolate bars awaiting glazing, reflecting Barnaby’s artisanal approach. Additionally, the visible enrobing machinery brings a performative element to the space, immersing customers in the chocolate-making process.

An Integrated Brand Identity


Morrisstudio collaborated with specialists to ensure every detail aligned with the brand’s vision. Irving & Co developed the branding, combining Victorian confectionery influences with post-war Americana typography. A logotype by calligrapher Peter Horridge and a whimsical crocodile mascot, created by Timba Smits, add playful yet refined touches to Barnaby’s identity.

Expanding Beyond Covent Garden


As Barnaby’s first retail space, the Covent Garden store sets the tone for future outlets in London and Paris. Each location will carry signature elements such as wood panelling, tiled floors, and the cohesive colour palette that defines Barnaby’s “peculiarly British” charm.

Price Tower, the sole skyscraper designed by the renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is on the brink of closure just 18 months after its acquisition by Copper Tree Group. The building is set to close due to a series of scandals, legal troubles, and severe financial mismanagement.

Copper Tree Group, led by Anthem and Cynthia Blanchard, purchased Price Tower with grand ambitions. The Blanchards promised a $10 million investment to revitalize the iconic structure, envisioning it as the centerpiece of a project dubbed “Silicon Ranch.” This initiative aimed to attract the tech sector to Bartlesville. However, the modernization plans, including a boutique hotel and upscale restaurants, failed to materialize.

In an interview with Tulsa-based radio station 102.3 KRMG, Cynthia Blanchard admitted that the acquisition was premature. “We didn’t know what we were getting into,” she said. The Blanchards bought the building for a nominal $10, inheriting $600,000 in debt that has since surged to $2 million.

The Blanchards’ legal woes have compounded the situation. HeraSoft, their blockchain company, faced insolvency, which led to claims that the Blanchards pressured employees to accept equity in Price Tower instead of receiving their owed salaries. Comprehensive Wine Education Across Three Levels

The L’art du vin program offers three intensive courses tailored to different levels of expertise: L’art du vin Introduction, L’art du vin – Business Class, and L’art du vin – First Class. Each course includes up to eight hours of classroom instruction, supplemented by study guides for home learning, an interactive app, and detailed tasting notes. Cabin crew members taste the exceptional wines served on Emirates flights, enhancing their ability to confidently recommend and serve wines to passengers.

The most advanced course, L’art du vin – First Class, offers an in-depth exploration of Premier and Grand Cru Classé wines. Additionally, they learn about iconic wines from around the world, including those from Spain, Italy, and the USA. Kamala Harris’s vice-presidential choice, Tim Walz, has sparked significant discussion on Chinese social media platforms. The attention stems from Mr. Walz’s year-long teaching stint in Guangdong in 1989, a topic that recently trended on Weibo, garnering 12 million views.

In 1989, Mr. Walz and his wife, Gwen Whipple, who is also a teacher, spent a year in China teaching English and American history.

Mr. Walz described the experience as “one of the best things I’ve ever done.” Before entering politics, the 60-year-old governor of Minnesota was a history teacher and football coach.

Fresh out of college, Walz’s decision to teach in China brought him to the country during a tumultuous time. The same year as the Tiananmen Square massacre. On June 4, 1989, Chinese military forces violently suppressed pro-democracy demonstrators in Beijing. Resulting in an unknown number of deaths, with estimates reaching into the thousands.

On Chinese social media, users discuss 1989 obliquely to avoid censorship. One user commented, “If you know, you know.” Others noted that foreigners in China at that time tend to be “the most anti-China.”

Some users emphasized that 1989 was a vastly different era for China, preceding its rise as a global manufacturing hub and economic powerhouse.

“This candidate was in China at a very different time. The atmosphere was very different,” one comment read. Despite this, there is hope that Walz’s background could foster better US-China relations amid ongoing trade and geopolitical tensions. A Weibo user remarked that Walz’s “unique background gives him a real perspective on China” and could “promote cultural exchanges between China and the United States at a time when… relations are extremely difficult.”

Walz taught at Foshan No. 1 High School through a Harvard University volunteer program. Upon his return to the US, he praised the Chinese people’s potential, saying, “They are such kind, generous, capable people.”

Walz and Whipple married on June 4, 1994, the fifth anniversary of the Tiananmen Square events. Whipple noted in an interview that her husband wanted a memorable date. The couple later founded a business organizing educational trips to China for American students.

There has been little official reaction from Republicans regarding Walz’s time in China.
