Emirates is taking its renowned in-flight wine service to new heights with the introduction of a specialized wine training program for its cabin crew, titled “L’art du vin.” Launched in June 2024 at the Emirates Cabin Crew Training College in Dubai, the program aims to deepen the cabin crew’s knowledge of the airline’s distinguished wine education offerings and foster a greater appreciation for the art of wine.

The innovative training program, designed by the Emirates Crew Training team, provides an immersive learning experience in a classroom that mimics the ambiance of a luxury lounge. The space features mood lighting, ambient music, and elegant displays of champagne, wines, and glassware, with a horseshoe-shaped bar that replicates Emirates’ iconic A380 Onboard Lounge.

Comprehensive Wine Education Across Three Levels

The L’art du vin program offers three intensive courses tailored to different levels of expertise: L’art du vin Introduction, L’art du vin – Business Class, and L’art du vin – First Class. Each course includes up to eight hours of classroom instruction, supplemented by study guides for home learning, an interactive app, and detailed tasting notes. Cabin crew members taste the exceptional wines served on Emirates flights, enhancing their ability to confidently recommend and serve wines to passengers.

To date, over 1,000 Emirates cabin crew members have completed the course, with plans to extend the training to more than 22,000 additional crew members by 2026. The program reflects Emirates’ ongoing commitment to enhancing both its people and products.

Tailored Wine Education for All Experience Levels

The L’art du vin program meticulously accommodates various levels of knowledge and experience among Emirates’ cabin crew. For newly recruited crew members, the introductory course offers a comprehensive overview of Emirates’ investment in wine, the fundamentals of winemaking, and essential wine facts. Participants engage in tastings of white, red, and sparkling wines and learn best practices for recommending wines to passengers, along with mastering the art of pouring techniques.

For more experienced cabin crew, the L’art du vin – Business Class course provides an advanced level of wine education. This course includes tastings that not only help crew members identify key wine characteristics such as acidity, dryness, sweetness, and fruitiness but also allow participants to explore Emirates’ extensive wine cellar. Moreover, they study the world’s wine regions, gaining valuable insights into the impact of climate on wine production. In addition, the course covers Emirates’ signature red and white wines, provides an introduction to champagne and port, and offers bespoke tasting experiences to perfect the art of wine and food pairing.

The most advanced course, L’art du vin – First Class, offers an in-depth exploration of Premier and Grand Cru Classé wines. Specifically, crew members study the prestigious 1855 Bordeaux classification, while also delving into the Grand Cru vineyards of Burgundy. Additionally, they learn about iconic wines from around the world, including those from Spain, Italy, and the USA. Moreover, the course covers Dom Pérignon Champagne, Château d’Yquem Sauternes, and aged vintage ports, along with advanced lessons on wine and food pairing.

Emirates’ Commitment to Excellence

Emirates offers the finest wine selections to passengers in every class. First Class passengers enjoy rare vintages from renowned wine regions, while Business Class passengers are treated to an impressive array of aged Bordeaux wines and notable selections from Burgundy and Spain. Premium Economy passengers savor a selection of sparkling vintage wines and premium red and white wines, and Economy Class passengers enjoy high-quality wines on all routes.

The L’art du vin program is led by a select group of cabin crew who have been identified as wine ambassadors, all of whom have earned WSET Level 2 and 3 certifications from The Wine & Spirit Education Trust. Upon completing the course, participants receive a certificate of achievement and the opportunity to advance in their Emirates career.

Through this initiative, Emirates continues to demonstrate its dedication to innovation, talent development, and providing an exceptional in-flight experience for its passengers.

Emirates will soon launch its NFTs for its consumers, staff, and the company and will be creating exciting metaverse experiences. The airline, which is known for its cutting-edge products and exceptional customer service, announced today its plans to create signature brand experiences in the metaverse, as well as collectible and utility-based NFTs. The first projects are already in the works, with a launch date in the near future.

The airlines recently stated that the Emirates Pavilion at Expo 2020 will be transformed into an innovation center, drawing talent from all over the world to bring the airline’s future-focused projects, such as metaverse, NFTs, and Web3, to life.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates, said: “In areas like virtual assets, artificial intelligence, and data protection, Dubai and the UAE are leading the way in the digital economy, with a clear vision backed up by practical policies and regulatory frameworks.

“Emirates has always embraced innovative technologies to improve business operations, expand our customer offerings, and broaden the talents and experiences of our staff. We are excited about the future potential in the digital realm, and we are making a big financial and human resource investment to build products and services that will bring revenue, brand experience, and business efficiencies using new technology.

Emirates is no stranger to providing digital experiences and engaging with consumers, having pioneered web virtual reality technology and its Emirates app more than 5 years ago, providing an immersive 3D, 360-degree picture of its cabin interior experiences onboard.

Customers can use the 3D seat map to explore their seats before checking in online, and potential customers can reserve their favorite seats directly from the 3D environment. This award-winning technology works with any device and doesn’t require any additional software or plug-ins.

The VR tour displaying future airplane cabin interiors was the most popular attraction among the “future of commercial aviation” themed activities at the Emirates Pavilion during Expo 2020 Dubai.

It was the first airline to release a virtual reality software on the Oculus store last year, providing customers with precise, life-size, and interactive cabin interior experiences onboard Emirates’ flagship A380 and Boeing 777-300ER Gamechanger aircraft. Users can, for example, “pick up” goods from the Onboard Lounge, “switch on” the Shower Spa, or “shut” the private suite doors behind them.

The Emirates airline is honoring Ramadan’s spirit and supporting the positive impact art has on culture and society by partnering with Mawaheb, which means talent’ in Arabic, to help sell pieces from its artists that are differently abled on the airline’s global Emirates Official Store platform, increasing their visibility, showcasing their brilliance, creativity, and hard work, and ultimately connecting them to art lovers all over the world.

Emirates and Mawaheb started working together two years ago to produce limited-edition, bespoke designs for the airline’s Ramadan boxes, which are served to customers onboard during the holy month.

The artists, who are headquartered in Dubai, have disabilities and are regarded in the UAE as People of Determination for their accomplishments in several professions and positive contributions to society.

Baker Khalid Yousuf Baker is a multi-talented Emirati artist who enjoys experimenting with strong colors and shapes in his paintings. Baker, along with other talented artists from Mawaheb, a Dubai-based art studio dedicated to People of Determination, continues to show the world that disability does not define your limits, and they will be proudly exhibiting their art for sale at the Emirates Official Store this Ramadan, thanks to the support of Emirates.

Mawaheb, a non-profit art studio, will get 100% of the proceeds from the artwork, and all purchases will directly fund its operations and help keep its numerous programs for People of Determination going. People of Determination can use the studio to get the tools, mediums, space, and inspiration they need to nurture their talents and grow their abilities.

For more than 20 years, Emirates has been a strong supporter of culture and the arts in the UAE and around the world, connecting with people and helping to feed their creative spirits by sponsoring and promoting a variety of events and platforms in literature, music, and art.

On the wall of a Dewa substation in Al Wasl Road, a large mural of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, has been discovered. The artwork is part of the ninth Dubai Street Museum initiative, and it was created by local and international artists.

Croatian portrait artist Lonac, best renowned for his large-scale photorealistic paintings, collaborated on the mural, as did Emirati digital artist Khalid Al Ramsi and Emirati calligrapher Mohammed Hussain Al Tamimi.

The painting, which measures 18 meters by 32 meters, depicts Sheikh Hamdan staring out of a plane window at the city’s most recognized attractions. The Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Emirates Towers, the Museum of the Future, and the Dubai Frame are among the constructions depicted to represent the degree of progress Dubai has seen over the last few decades.

The artwork is complemented by a calligraphic version of a verse written by Sheikh Hamdan about Dubai’s accomplishments, which he claims were only possible due to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai’s vision.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid established the Dubai Street Museum in 2016 with the goal of highlighting the emirate’s identity, values, and goals through installing public artworks throughout the city.

“Dewa is ecstatic to have collaborated with Brand Dubai on this latest mural project, which aims to enrich Dubai’s creative environment while also highlighting its modernity and status as an innovation hub,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Dewa’s executive vice president of Strategy and Government Communications.

“The collaboration is part of Dewa’s efforts to help Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum realize his vision of transforming Dubai into an open museum that showcases the city’s character as one of the world’s fastest-growing and culturally diverse cities. The latest painting, which depicts Dubai’s architectural marvels, is a reflection of the city’s many accomplishments and continuous march toward advancement and greatness.”

To support talents and ensure the sustainability of the arts and culture sector, as well as enriching the cultural scene in the emirate, the Ajman Department for Tourism Development has organized its latest initiative, ‘Ajman Art Touring,’ to exhibit the works and paintings of talented artists across the region.

The program is part of the Art & Cultural Office’s goals, which include partnering with over 250 local and international artists to showcase their artworks at the recently launched Al Murabba Arts Festival, in collaboration with strategic partners from the emirates hospitality sector. The Ajman Art Touring is part of the ‘World’s Coolest Winter’ program, which aims to promote Ajman as a major arts and culture destination.

Additionally, as Ajman Tourism wants to expand its artistic activities beyond the Al Murabba Arts Festival, the program encourages and promotes artists by establishing a long-term connection with them to showcase their work. The Ajman Art Touring was opened at the Ajman Hotel, and its exhibitions will be presented on the website of the Al Murabbaa Arts Festival. Ajman Tourism is also looking for 5-star hotels in the emirate to hold exhibitions of the participating artists’ work, such as the Ajman Hotel, Ajman Saray Hotel, and Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel.

The program contributes to the enrichment of Ajman’s cultural sector by encouraging artistic talents and providing them with a platform to display their work, which will reflect Ajman’s dynamic and diverse cultural scene on both a local and international level. The department is always working to promote cultural and artistic activities, support artistic movements, and create awareness about the role of culture in preserving and reinforcing Emirati identity.

Abu Dhabi Art welcomes visitors back this November as an in-person event. Held under the patronage of Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, the 13th edition of Abu Dhabi Art will take place 18 – 21 November, at Manarat Saadiyat and online. The art event went virtual due to covid 19 regulations last year.

Abu Dhabi Art will be also showcasing several new commissioned installations at locations throughout the emirate of Abu Dhabi, from Liwa to Al Ain, and extended programming to support the local creative scene throughout the year. Some digital elements introduced last year will be retained.

“Abu Dhabi Art is a platform for cultural connectivity, bringing together artists, galleries, institutions and arts professionals and fostering innovation and creativity by connecting them,” said Mohamed Al Mubarak, chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

The visual campaign art selected for the 13th edition of Abu Dhabi Art features works by Emirati artists Ayesha Hadhir, Rawdha Khalifa Al Ketbi and Shaikha Fahad Al Ketbi, first created as part of Beyond: Emerging Artists in 2019. In these works, they jointly explore the idea of transformation in different environments, from seascapes and the desert, to abandoned cityscapes.

“Abu Dhabi is one of the safest places in the world to visit in 2021, and we are excited to announce that we will welcome visitors to our programme at Manarat Al Saadiyat at the end of the year, adhering to all necessary health and safety regulations. Abu Dhabi Art is now an important marker in the global cultural calendar, and a key initiative that reflects Abu Dhabi as a culturally active and artistically conscious city,” Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, added.

2021 Guest Artists and Curators will be announced in the coming months, along with further details on the emirate-wide programme for the fair.  Applications are now open for galleries to exhibit in the 13th edition of the fair in November.
