LOEWE’s Ballet Runner has received a significant update with the launch of the Ballet Runner 2.0. First introduced in 2019 by creative director Jonathan Anderson, the original sneaker was an early adopter of the retro running trend. Now, LOEWE has reimagined this silhouette with fresh color options, refined details, and an enhanced structure, making the Ballet Runner 2.0 a standout in the footwear category.

A Fresh Take on a Modern Classic

The Ballet Runner 2.0 builds upon the foundation of the original design while incorporating new features that elevate its aesthetic and functionality. The updated sneaker comes with a new shape that adds weight to the silhouette, thanks to additional overlays and embellishments. The upgraded sole is a key highlight, providing extra durability and support without sacrificing style.

Offered in a total of seven colorways, the Ballet Runner 2.0 comes in both nylon and calfskin leather variants. The nylon versions include a classic black-and-white duo, along with two bold technicolor options. One of the technicolor variants even recalls the iconic Nike Forrest Gump Cortez colorways, a nod to retro athletic styling. On the other hand, the calfskin leather variants, which include White, Black, and Cinnamon, offer a more elegant, monochromatic look, perfect for those seeking a pared-back yet sophisticated design.

Signature Design Elements and Branding

As with the original, the Ballet Runner 2.0 prominently features LOEWE’s signature oversized cursive L monogram, which adorns the lateral panel of the sneaker. A square-shaped emblem is embossed into the tongue tab, further emphasizing the brand’s commitment to premium craftsmanship. A new feature of the 2.0 version is an injected rubber Loewe logo that protrudes from the heel tab, adding a modern twist to the classic sneaker.

The asymmetrical toebox, sock-like internal structure, and textured rubber outsole—visible at the toecap—are all design elements that contribute to the shoe’s unique character. These enhancements give the Ballet Runner 2.0 both a functional and fashionable edge, making it suitable for a variety of occasions and settings.

Availability and Market Impact

The Ballet Runner 2.0 is available now for purchase on the official LOEWE web store. With its bold new features and array of color options, the updated sneaker is set to capture the attention of fashion-forward individuals looking for both comfort and style. Whether you’re drawn to its technicolor variations or prefer the sleek monochrome leather models, the Ballet Runner 2.0 brings a refreshing update to a beloved design.

Genoese architecture studio Caarpa has transformed the Church of Nostra Signora della Costa in Levanto, Italy, into a versatile event space, preserving its historic charm while adding a modern mezzanine structure.

Revitalizing History with Contemporary Design

The Church of Nostra Signora della Costa has a rich history, dating back to its 14th-century consecration. Over time, the building experienced several modifications, including floor lowering, the removal of marble cladding, and the addition of a plain concrete slab. By the mid-20th century, urban development and neglect had left the church in disrepair.

Caarpa’s renovation project aimed to restore and repurpose the church, introducing a contemporary steel structure known as the cantoria. This choir gallery, positioned near the entrance, is designed to provide a private mezzanine overlooking the main hall while complementing the ornate frescoes and stucco decorations.

Cantoria: A Blend of Old and New

The cantoria was crafted from micro-perforated metal panels, finished in a powder blue to match the church’s walls. The structure includes a spiral staircase that leads to the mezzanine, offering visitors a closer look at the preserved 18th-century frescoes and views from a large trefoil window.

The design of the cantoria contrasts with the church’s classical architecture, yet its two curved capitals subtly nod to classical styles, blending new and old elements seamlessly. Caarpa carefully balanced the client’s request for additional space with the need to preserve the church’s original character, introducing new perspectives while maintaining the building’s historic integrity.

Preserving the Past While Embracing the Future

Caarpa’s work in the presbytery and apse involved restoring the frescoes and stuccoes, cleaning them of patina, while also exposing traces of the church’s 20th-century history. The church’s raw pastel walls and missing plaster have been left visible, intentionally highlighting the building’s struggles over time.

The studio’s restoration efforts include treating the stripped altars with lime putty to reveal their original form and replacing the flooring with slate tiles arranged in linear patterns with borders every three rows.

Founded in Genoa in 2017, Caarpa is known for its innovative approach to blending historical architecture with contemporary design. Other notable projects include modern interventions in a historic provostry in Prague and the conversion of a church in Transylvania into a guesthouse.

Jaguar has unveiled a significant rebrand as part of its shift towards an all-electric lineup, introducing a new design philosophy that the brand calls “Exuberant Modernism.” This rebranding represents the company’s commitment to bold, innovative design and a fresh, modern approach that diverges from its traditional image.

The new logo features a slim, rounded typeface, a stark contrast to the previous sleek, condensed lettering. This contemporary wordmark blends uppercase and lowercase letters, signaling the company’s evolution. Alongside the updated logo, Jaguar presented vibrant, diverse imagery with models set against striking pink backgrounds—signifying a celebration of individuality, non-conformity, and creativity.

Jaguar’s rebrand has sparked a variety of reactions. Some have praised the brand for its daring transformation, viewing it as an attempt to appeal to younger generations—particularly Gen Z—by promoting diversity and self-expression. Others, however, have expressed criticism, with some highlighting a disconnect between the brand’s new imagery and the automotive world. The rebrand has also faced backlash from certain quarters, including designer communities who find the mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters unappealing. In addition, some have taken issue with the brand’s perceived embrace of “woke” culture.

Despite the mixed reactions, Jaguar is undeterred, focusing on its commitment to leading the electric vehicle market. Whether the rebrand will successfully propel Jaguar into the future or prove to be a misstep remains to be seen. Stay tuned for updates on the company’s ongoing transformation.

Hall Haus is a visionary collective founded in 2020 by Abdoulaye Niang, Sammy Bernoussi, Teddy Sanches, and Zakari Boukhari. Inspired by the pioneering spirit of Bauhaus and the transformative energy of Hip Hop culture, Hall Haus redefines the boundaries of design, aiming to democratize the discipline and address pressing social and environmental challenges. In this exclusive interview, delve into the creative process, multicultural influences, and commitment to delivering unforgettable user experiences that define the essence of Hall Haus.

1. Can you share the inspiration and vision behind founding Hall Haus in 2020? How did the diverse backgrounds of Abdoulaye Niang, Sammy Bernoussi, Teddy Sanches, and Zakari Boukhari contribute to the unique creative approach that defines Hall Haus?

In creating Hall Haus, we wanted above all to democratize the discipline of design to as many people as possible, to those who don’t have access to it, and also to change the codes of this discipline so that the messages and problems solved by it are understood by everyone. But we also aim to help solve the social and environmental problems of today and tomorrow.

Two inspirations led us to create Hall Haus, the first the Bauhaus and the second Hip Hop culture, hence our name: Hall Haus.

I think the fact that we have 4 founding entities means we can push our projects further, and help each other, but we also need to understand each other, and the diversity of our backgrounds gives us a better understanding of the world around us.

2. Hall Haus focuses on objects, experiences, and transmission in its design philosophy. Could you elaborate on how these three core areas of focus shape your creative process? How do you ensure that your designs are not just aesthetically pleasing but also serve a practical purpose?

Having established our field of action along these 3 axes,  for us the creative process is always the same, and  I can sum it up in 3 words: ideation, development and production. Each project starts as an object, then we scale it up to become an experience, and the transmission is how we can leave an indefinite trace of this creation.

In addition to being an artistic discipline, design is also an industrial discipline, so it has to serve a precise function and need.

3. The name ‘Hall Haus’ suggests a connection between a multicultural environment (hall) and design expertise (haus). How does your multicultural background influence the design choices and concepts you bring to the table? Can you provide examples of projects where this intersection is particularly evident?

When we create, our biggest inspiration is the world around us, our environment, and in our generation and our environment we’ve been rocked by Hip Hop culture, so our inspirations come a lot from music, fashion, architecture, and art in general.

I think our curry mango chair is the perfect example, inspired by Marcel  Bruer’s  B3 armchair representing the Bauhaus philosophy, and also the decathlon folding camping chair, a symbol of French Hip Hop culture.

4. Your goal is to deliver an unforgettable experience to the user.  How do you approach designing for a memorable user experience? Are there specific principles or strategies you consistently apply to achieve this objective in your projects?

No particular strategy, but when we want to create a physical or digital experience, we try to stimulate the 5 human senses: hearing, smell, touch, taste and sight. So that’s why we love working with music producers, fragrance designers, different material textures and so on.

5. Hall Haus maintains a presence on social media platforms. How has the digital space contributed to the growth and visibility of your design organization? In what ways do each of you, individually, use your social media handles(@hall.haus /@sammy_bernoussi / @tedicaps / @zakintheair) to showcase your design work and connect with your audience?

We’ve grown up in the digital world, so we take pleasure in telling our story and the story of our objects through these tools.  I think that everyone in the collective has their own way of telling our story, which is more interesting.
